Dr. Ahmed is the Director of Orthodontics at National Dental with a diverse background in education, private practice, teaching, academic clinical care, and consulting. His extensive training and expertise make him a respected figure in the field of orthodontics and craniofacial anomalies.
Education/Training:
Dr. Ahmed completed his postgraduate specialty training at prestigious institutions including residency in orthodontics, fellowship in cleft/craniofacial anomalies, and a National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsored Master of Science in clinical research methods. His training took place at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, and the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic.
Private Practice:
In the greater New York area, Dr. Ahmed established three successful private practices specializing in orthodontics. His practices were renowned for their emphasis on clear aligners and passive self-ligating systems. After twelve years of growth and success, Dr. Ahmed recently sold all his offices.
Teaching:
Dr. Ahmed serves as the Program Director for the Orthodontic Residency at Montefiore Medical Center. He also holds guest faculty positions at several international craniofacial centers, contributing significantly to education and research in the field. His frequent publications further showcase his dedication to teaching and advancing orthodontic knowledge.
Academic Clinical Care:
At Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Ahmed founded and directed the Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM) clinic. He played a pivotal role in the hospital's 3D printing lab, focusing on research and development using stereolithography additive manufacturing processes and computer-aided manipulation software. His work in this area has greatly benefited children with cleft lip/palate.
Consulting:
Dr. Ahmed's expertise extends to consulting roles, where he advises county and state Boards of Health, doctor-owned Dental Service Organizations (DSOs), and craniofacial nonprofits. He serves as an advisory board member for two craniofacial nonprofits and offers his expertise to dental and medical device companies, including Align Technology and STS-Surgical Inc.
